The lincoln Party
Welcome
What is The lincoln party?
For decades, the Republican Party united strong national defense proponents and social and pro-business conservatives. However, President Trump has reshaped the GOP and rejected its traditions. Trump has used the GOP in his own image, for his own benefit. Now, Americans view all republicans as Trump supporters, even though there is a clear distinction between Trump's America and republicanism.
Evolving parties are a normal thing- what isn't normal is a president who does not hold a deep ideology for the party they are representing; Trump can care less about republicanism. Today, because of Trump's carelessness and shadiness, republicans are stereotyped as close-minded, racists, and amoral.
Design challenge
How will our team effectively rebrand, educate, diffuse and reason with others about the transformation we are applying to the Republican Party name?
-
How can we most effectively reach and convince others? Videos? Articles? Instagram posts?
-
How will we properly convince our audience that there is in fact a difference between Republicanism and Trumpism?
-
How could we persuade Trump supporters that Trump without question has disoriented the GOP party, tainting its name?
The Soulution
We are outlining the core values of Republicanism and analyzing how President Trump has tainted its name. We will create a multi-media piece that features how the Republican Party has been taken advantage of and abused by our own President. Like the Lincoln Party, we are working to defeat Trumpism - a clear and present ideology that endangers the Constitution and our Republic.
There is so much hate, polarization, and division in our nation today. Even if you do not align with Republican values, we urge you to learn and truly understand our party's values, without corrupt and polarizing characters like Trump tainting its name.
Understanding will allow the country to heal its political and psychological wounds and allow for a new, better path forward for all Americans.
Research, the core beliefs of the lincoln party and comparing trumpism and the lincoln party.
Our Research
First, we identified key Republicanism beliefs, such as those of free trade, family values, limited government and the right to govern by the Constitution. But analyzing more closely as to what Trump has done in his administration, its evident Trump steered far away from these and redefined what it meant to be Republican. We looked at & analyzed successful Republican presidencies, such as Bush's Compassionate Conservatism or Reagan's Reaganism. The goal was to create a distinction between Trump's values and those of the Republicans. Now, as he loses the election, the party faces an even more dangerous peril of whether he runs in 4 years and the internal ruin & divide that will create. Doing this analysis was both unsettling to research and shocking to see just how many Republicans have assimilated more towards Trump's ideology more than the Republican party's.

"The fundamental reason Trump isn’t a Republican is far bigger than words or policies. He stands in opposition to the founding principle of our party — that of a united country." - The Washington Post
-
At the end of the day, Trump cares more about his celebrity name and businesses so he continuously promotes himself over party - or, in general, the good of the American people (another GOP principle)
-
Trump is always eager to tell people that they don’t belong here, whether it’s Mexicans, Muslims, transgender people, or other marginalized groups. His message is, “You are not one of us,” the opposite of “e Pluribus Unum.
-
Trumpism appeals to a large group of anti-intellectual, conspiracy-minded and alienated malcontents, composed of a mish-mash of overt patriotism, economic nationalism, along with a vague commitment to the middle class and an aggressive but indefinite foreign policy.
-
Trumpism is also defined by nativism. This movement reaches back to the mid-19th century Know-Nothing agitation and short-lived American Party that combined anti-immigrant sentiment with conspiracy theories about foreigners.
Design and Branding
The Evolution of The Lincoln Party Logo
Then it came to the logo, we wanted it to appeal to both the older and younger members of the Republican Party. This is why we incorporated the old GOP logo of the elephant to a side profile of Abraham Lincoln. We kept it simple and elegant to reach out to the younger generation and make it a logo that not only represents their values but would look good as a sticker or T-shirt.
How we chose our colors
We chose to stick with Republican colors (mainly red) so we could appeal to all Republicans. For this rebrand, we aren't necessarily trying to create a whole new party, rather focus on separating GOP values from Trumpist ones.
We combined the current GOP logo (the elephant) with Lincolns Silhouette to create:
How we would apply our methods
True Republicans Can...
Explain the concern we have with where the current GOP is heading towards.
Emphasize the atrocities/violations carried out under President Trump that goes against traditional conservative values.
Do our own research instead of mindlessly listening to politicians & the media.
Republican Politicians Can...
Reassert the respected traditions and values of the GOP.
Speak out against current/former right-wing leaders who are not Republican.
Vote for policies & people they agree with instead of the party!
Everyone Can...
Advocate against Trumpism
Defend the true values of Republicanism.
Learn from each other and listen to other political beliefs and opinions.
Understand the party does not define a person
